Xbox One Backward Compatibility games update: Additional games to arrive by end of March

The Xbox One Backward Compatibility list of games is growing stronger, indicating that Microsoft is keeping its part of the bargain when they announced the program. However, due to technical reasons, there are only a limited number of games that the tech giant can add to the list every month. Hopefully, another set of games will be ready by the end of the month.

As of today, there are 137 Xbox 360 games available to Xbox One owners through the Backward Compatibility feature since it started back in November with only 104 games. Twelve additional games were also released last month. Express U.K. reported that the next set of games may arrive by the end of March.

Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox gaming, shared some thoughts on the process involved in bringing Xbox 360 games to the current-gen console. Pocket-Lint quoted Spencer as saying, "[It's a long process] especially when you're working with third-party games. If you put out something and it's not running well, it will reflect negatively on the publisher. So we want to get approval from the third-parties before we release them."

"You also have to make sure it runs well in backwards compatibility mode. We have one of our testing teams run through every level of the game, just to make sure that there is nothing not working exactly the way we expect," he added.

Spencer pointed out that the game publisher may have other plans for the game. Right now, there are games that are being released as HD and there is a possibility that the publisher does not want to have a same-date release for the HD and the backward-compatible version. Thus, the decision is not entirely just Microsoft's or Xbox's alone;  other businesses involved in the game have also the right to make the decision.

Also, Xbox is not delaying when it comes to releasing backward-compatible games. Once they are ready, they are released. This is a step away from the company's original plan, which was to accumulate 10 to 20 games before they get released.

In the end, Xbox players will still be receiving a better part of the bargain. They do not need to purchase another copy of their favorite Xbox 360 games just to be able to play them on the Xbox One console.
