Two new titles are the latest additions to the growing Xbox One Backward Compatibility library as revealed earlier this week. They join two other games that were added just yesterday.
As per usual, Xbox programming director Larry Hryb, who is arguably more known for his online persona, Major Nelson, broke the news that "Dead Space Ignition" as well as "Escape Dead Island" are now officially part of the program.
"Dead Space Ignition" is an action puzzle game developed by Megatube and Sumo Digital and published by Electronics Arts for the Xbox Live Arcade back in 2010. The game in-between debut title "Dead Space" and its sequel is set in Sprawl, the backdrop for "Dead Space 2." The game challenges players to survive the initial Necromorph outbreak which is also part of the bigger plot in the following main game. It also gives players additional content where they can receive bonus items that will help them move forward in the franchise. While its overall concept sounds good, "Dead Space Ignition" received mostly negative reviews. Critics cite its comic book style that seems to be out of place with respect to the overall tone of the title. "Escape Dead Island," on the other hand, is an adventure game infused with survival horror elements. Developed by Swedish company Fatshark and published by a German studio Deep Silver, it first arrived for major consoles in 2014. The game follows protagonist Cliff Calo as he tries to find an explanation for a series of unfortunate events in Banoi. "Escape Dead Island" got mixed reviews that mostly leaned towards the negative side. Critics cited poorly-honed gameplay as one of the most notable gripes. Meanwhile, others noted that it is decent enough for a game that treads a very saturated genre. Just recently, Major Nelson also added two games coming to the Xbox One Backward Compatibility library in "Omega Five" and "Military Madness." The former is a side-scrolling shooter that came out in 2008. The latter, on the other hand, is a science fiction strategy game which is quite old as its initial release can be traced back all the way to 1989.
