WWE NXT news 2015: Finn Balor's reign marks start of a new era

Finn Balor's victory in the WWE NXT championship was not really much of a surprise, with rumors about that already coming out even before the WWE Beast in the East event in Tokyo, Japan.

Some were even apprehensive, calling the then-rumored title change bad for the WWE brand. But Kevin Owens is moving on to better heights as the loss to Balor practically boots Owens into the WWE main roster.

Despite holding the WWE NXT belt, it was obvious that Owens had been making waves in the WWE scene. Though he has been limited to feuding with John Cena, it was only a matter of time before Owens gets more opportunities in the main shows.

Owens is set to face off anew against Cena at WWE Battleground on July 19, but this time for higher stakes, as his long-time rival puts his U.S. title on the line.

The match will attempt to break a standoff between the two wrestlers, though one has the feeling that Owens could come out the winner and be crowned the new U.S. champion. But all that remains to be seen especially with a third party involved – Cesaro.

Hence, Balor's victory stands as a sign of a shift in power, with Owens most likely to make occasional appearances from now on and devoting most of his time on RAW and SMACKDOWN.

But the cherry on the top could prove to be Owens winning the U.S. title from Cena at WWE Battleground. If that happens, expect the WWE NXT belt to be less important to Owens from thereon.

With the probable exit of Owens in the WWE NXT ranks, who will Balor eventually end up feuding with? Could he eventually put the title on the line against Samoa Joe or Sami Zayn? All that remains to be seen.
