'Watch Dogs 2' update: Ubisoft to make one major change in sequel

"Watch Dogs 2" is currently in production and Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot can already say that the sequel to the original open-world action-adventure third-person shooter will have a "new tone."

Guillemot revealed this tidbit during the company's earnings call (via Gamespot). He did not go into detail on what this new tone will mean for the game, although he also did say that the title will be "innovative."

In the past months, there have been mentions of "Watch Dogs 2" being a departure from its predecessor. "Watch Dogs" creative director Jonathan Morin recently admitted that making a sequel to a game brings greater demands. For this, risks had to be taken.

"With a sequel, there is more pressure to push a brand forward and we now have to appeal to fans in a new way," he told GamesTM. "We have to give [the development team] something hard to do. If we don't, they could fade out, which means you don't benefit from their knowledge or they will leave," he added.

Details about "Watch Dogs 2" have been very difficult to come by. Prior to Guillemot's vague update, the supposed protagonist of the series was leaked by the actor who played it.

Actor Cort King shared on his Instagram account a photo (which he eventually took down) of the new lead character that he said that he did motion capture for.

While the new central character kept his trademark cap and handkerchief (now blue and not black), he traded Aiden's signature trench leather coat for a leather jacket with a gray shirt underneath. He has a small bag he wears over his left shoulder.

At the moment, there are no specific details regarding the release date of "Watch Dogs 2," although rumors say it will be out by Match 2017. New details about the title are expected to come out of the Electronic Entertainment Expo next month.
