As well as the main fight between Chad Mendes and Conor McGregor, UFC 189 also features a co-main event as Robbie Lawler fights Rory MacDonald for the Welterweight title.

Tonight's UFC 189 festivities come from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and in fact was originally billed as a massive battle between two of the most ruthless fighters in MMA - McGregor and Jose Aldo.

However, that major fight will have to live to see another day after an injury put to bed that match up. Instead Chad Mendes and Conor McGregor will step into the Octagon for the Featherweight title.

McGregor is well known as a powerful striker, and in his past five appearances he has managed four technical knock out wins. If he can defeat Mendes today then he will step right up among the featherweight elite in MMA, and it would only be a matter of time before he then steps up to finally face Jose Aldo.

However, as much as McGregor has it all to gain today, he also has it all to lose, as if Mendes can manage to claim the win today then it would distinctly water down the McGregor reputation, transforming him from potential UFC superstar to just another fighter who talks the talk but struggles to walk the walk.

Today's big UFC 189 event can be watched on UFC PPV, with the Early Prelims available to watch via the UFC Fight Pass from 7 p.m. ET, and the Main Prelims available to be watched on Fox Sports 1 from 8 p.m. ET. The main card starts at 10 p.m. ET and can be watched on UFC PPV or online through live stream by clicking here.
