It has been more than 19 months since Cain Velasquez stepped into the Octagon, but he will finally return tonight for UFC 188. In his last appearance he successfully defended the heavyweight championship, gaining a late stoppage over Junior dos Santos.

However, since that time he has suffered various injuries that have stopped him building on that legacy. Also due to the long time he has taken out, the UFC has handed over the interim title to Fabricio Werdum via a UFC 180 victory over Mark Hunt.

But tonight the pair finally come together in a massive heavyweight unification bout, and this is a moment many UFC fans have been waiting months for, to see if Velasquez still has it, or whether Werdum can be named the true champ.

The pair were originally scheduled to meet more than six months ago, but Velasquez suffered yet another injury while training, and had to withdraw from that fight.

Also tonight in another big match up will be Gilbert Melendez (Strikeforce) and Eddie Alvarez (Bellator) in a co-main event. That fight has been years in the making and will gain wide interest from hardcore MMA fans.

The other three main card fights all feature some Hispanic background, which should provide extra excitement for the local crowd. Both Kelvin Gastelum and Yair Rodriguez should be fan favourites in the arena and help the build up to the main event.

A full UFC 188 fight schedule and card can be seen below. The Early Prelims will get started from 7 p.m. ET, and the PPV main card can be seen from 10 p.m. ET. The full event can be watched on PPV via UFC TV.
