'Tokyo Ghoul' season 3 release date, spoilers: New season partly an adaptation of 'Tokyo Ghoul: re?'

While it has been confirmed that there will be another season of "Tokyo Ghoul," slated to appear sometime this year, details are unclear about what the new season will be all about. New speculations suggest that since some of the feedback to the series has something to do with the last season, the upcoming anime adaptation may be a quasi-reboot of the series, bridging the gaps in the original "Tokyo Ghoul" and "Tokyo Ghoul: re" adaptations.

According to reports, the lukewarm reception that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 2 got from hardcore fans had something to do with the plot. Reportedly, the last season did not adhere that much to the original story in the manga series, and as a result, development of the plot and the characters seemed rushed.

Fans have petitioned that the upcoming season should not divert from how the story in the original manga unfolded, and some even toyed with the idea of rebooting the anime adaptation.

In addition, the industry observer said that fans are also saying that the continuation of the story may also be told from a fresh perspective, particularly that of the characters in "Tokyo Ghoul: re" manga adaptation.

Meanwhile, Korea Portal compiled a list of predictions of what the upcoming season will be all about. Reportedly, one of the main highlights of the upcoming episodes is that the secret identity of Ken Kaneki will finally be revealed, with the new season releasing its premiere in the latter part of 2016, possibly by the year's end. Meanwhile, to connect the story of Kaneki and "Tokyo Ghoul:re" character Touka Kirishima, it will also be revealed that Kirishima will be Kaneki's training partner.

In addition, it is also rumored that prior to Ken Kaneki's secret identity being exposed, the new season will also reveal that his memories will return, as he continues to live in his Haise Sasaki persona.
