It is a sad week for the fans of the time-travel series "Timeless" as it has been announced that it will no longer be returning to NBC for a second season. However, all hope is not yet lost.

"Timeless" follows the time-traveling adventures of history professor Lucy Preston (Abigail Spencer), U.S. Army Delta Force soldier Wyatt Logan (Matt Lanter), and programmer Rufus Carlin (Malcolm Barrett). They are tasked to travel to different points in time using the Lifeboat to stop the terrorist Garcia Flynn (Goran Višnjić). In the process, they discover Flynn's true intentions, as well as a secret organization named Rittenhouse, and how Lucy is connected to it through her father.

The show has garnered decent ratings and has amassed a dedicated fan base, but unfortunately, NBC has decided to cancel the show due to financial reasons. When the first season ended, "Taken" took over its time slot. According to Screen Rant, although "Timeless" did much better with an average rating of 2.0 compared to the other show's 1.5, NBC has decided to renew "Taken" for another season as it is cheaper to produce.

While "Timeless" is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television, "Taken" has a cheaper in-house production with Universal Television and Europe Corp., which are NBC partners.

Despite the show being axed by NBC, there is still a glimmer of hope for the fans to see another season of "Timeless." Deadline has reported that according to co-creator Eric Kripke, they are working on finding another network that will pick up their time-travel series.

In a recent tweet, he said, "Its [sic] true. NBC canceled #Timeless. We're surprised & upset. Get you a longer response later. Odds are long, but trying to find another home."

One of the fans dismayed by the cancellation news is "Saturday Night Live" star Leslie Jones. On Twitter, she vented out her frustration that the "excellent show" had been cancelled. She said, "WTF?! WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO DO TO KEEP A GOOD SHOW ON TV?! @NBCTimeless was an excellent show!!! Y'all making a huge mistake!!! [sic]"

For now, fans will have to wait what co-creators Kripke and Shawn Ryan can come up with in their quest to find "Timeless" a new home.
