Author George R. R. Martin remains tight-lipped on the real status of "The Winds of Winter," the sixth installment in his "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. However, fans are speculating that the author may possibly be planning not only the sixth but also the seventh book, "A Dream of Spring," with the books released at the same time.

According to Parent Herald, fans are discussing the possible scenario on Reddit. The idea is not far-fetched, but many are also afraid that the books might take longer than expected and fans patience may start to lose interest. But many disagreed that they will still wait for the books no matter what happens.

A user named tvkkk said, "I hope the delay is because of change in storyline and not because he's stuck." The user added, "Last year, in an interview he had teased a great twist about a character who is dead in the show but not in the books. He was still contemplating whether to go that direction or not. He later said he's decided to go with it. A sudden change in plans can make you move slowly."

Other fans are also discussing who will claim the Iron Throne.  Many are saying that it will not only be Daenerys Targaryen who is interested in becoming the mighy ruler. Aegon Targaryen is also interested. Aegon is the nephew of the Dragon Queen, and is the son of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and Elia Martell, the Dorne royalty. It was believed that the young prince died but will surprise everyone when "The Winds of Winter" arrives, and he is still alive. Cersei Lannister will actually be defending King's Landing from Aegon and not Daenerys, as believed by the fans, according to a report by Christian Times.

Meanwhile, GameNGuide mentioned that the upcoming season seven of "Game of Thrones," the TV series adaptation of the book, has been delayed purposely to give time to Martin to release the sixth book. Rumors claimed that the author was disappointed because several plots were revealed by the TV show, which may cause the fans to lost interest in the book.

For the meantime, there is still no official word on the release of "The Winds of Winter," but it is speculated to arrive in January 2017.
