Glenn's (Steven Yeun) very senseless death has obviously caused so much grief in "The Walking Dead" lore especially for the still very pregnant Maggie (Lauren Cohan). But if there is anything that she has learned from her husband's brutal death, it is that she is capable of standing on her own and that what she exactly did during the recent ruckus at the Hilltop Colony.
The Alexandrian has been away for the last couple of episodes due to her physical state as well as needing time to grieve the death of her husband. But once she finally gathered enough courage to continue moving forward with her life after she visited Glenn's grave, she got renewed strength. This actually helped the community battle the nighttime zombie attack sent by the Saviors to the Hilltop's gates.
In a postmortem session with Entertainment Weekly, the actress was asked about what fans can now expect for the soon-to-be mom given that she has shown immense potential to be a dependable leader.
"There's this sort of a conflicted drive there because she knows she has to take it easy with the placenta tear that's happening, but ultimately she can't stand still if there's something that can be done. So, yeah, I think it's just instinctively knowing how we're going to solve this problem and just jumping to it. And I like seeing the beginnings of her relationship with the other Hilltop residents that she is delegating to. It was a fun solution to find," she said.
Not only did Maggie prove to be a great strategist, who is very much needed at crucial times, but she has also asserted her presence in her community when she delivered a knuckle sandwich to Gregory (Xander Berkeley). Then, adding a verbal blow that commanded the quasi-leader to call her by name which is Maggie Rhee.
As the season goes on, viewers can count on Maggie being more of a presence not just in the current group that she is in. It is no secret that after the brutal and terrible night with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), most of the Alexandrians were so shocked to even utter anything. Rick (Andrew Lincoln) himself came out of it a broken man, understandably so, especially after his one-on-one with this season's big baddie. But it was Maggie who was very adamant about seeking revenge for what the Saviors have done to their group and it might not be surprising if she acts on it in the future.
"We'll see through the season how Glenn lives in her, and it's not easily put into one thing, but things like that which are so concrete are... I don't know, I haven't even processed the whole thing," Cohan added.
