"The Walking Dead" season 6 is currently on a break, but that has not stopped fans from speculating as to what the rest of the season has in store.
Unfortunately for fans of the hit zombie series, numerous rumors have pointed out that the back half of the sixth season will feature a number of deaths.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, "The Walking Dead" showrunner Scott M. Gimple revealed a few things on what to expect when the show returns.
"It's quite deadly, sadly. There is some death going on in that but it's also unbelievably intense. It's one of the most intense episodes we've done. I know we say that a lot — I've said that about the premiere episode this year and we had 30,000 walkers. We might not hit those numbers in episode nine but the intensity by the end of that episode is not gut-wrenching — it's gut-swirling and gut-slamming and frappeing."
The back half of the season will also reportedly feature some new characters, including known villain Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his group, The Saviors.
Since the show is based on Robert Kirkman's eponymous comic book series, reports indicate that The Hilltop community will be introduced in the second half of season 6. The Hilltop is a neighboring community led by Gregory.
Gimple has also pointed out in the same interview that the rest of season 6 will be quite different in terms of storytelling. The formula and theme will be shifted, with the rest of the season focusing more on external struggles in contrast to internal transformations shown in the first half. Gimple also notes that it will be stronger plot-wise.
The rest of the series is also expected to please fans of the original comic book series.
"There are a lot of direct moments from the comic coming up in the second half and panels that we're bringing to life — from very big comic moments to really tiny comic moments," Gimple teased.
"The Walking Dead" season 6 episode 9 titled "No Way Out" will air on Feb. 14 on AMC.
