'Vampire Diaries' season 7 spoilers: Future Steroline split has a 'legit reason'

Stefan and Caroline The CW

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 has been giving viewers a foretaste of the future, and in one of those, it is shown that in a matter of years, Steroline will be no more as Caroline finds another man in her life. The reveal, needless to say, begged big questions to be answered.

Fans believe that Stefan's first love Valerie has something to do with the split. But in an interview with TV Line, executive producer Caroline Dries sheds light on the matter and hinted what could have really caused the couple to call it quits.

"Valerie is part of the reason, but it's a much bigger, more emotional, legit reason," the EP told the aforementioned site. "It's beyond petty jealousy or Stefan cheating on Caroline or anything like that," she went on to say. Nonetheless, Valerie will be much of a presence going forward.

In the next episode of "The Vampire Diaries" season 7, which is titled "Live Through This," Caroline expresses to Bonnie how uneasy she is after allowing her boyfriend to spend a day with his first love, a day that seems to have gotten a little too steamy.

The promo for the episode shows Valerie telling Stefan the truth about her pregnancy, a thought that will keep Stefan up and about. Dries said that Stefan almost being a daddy is "something he will be really be thinking about as we move forward in the season."

Meanwhile, the next "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 episode will also allow viewers to peep through Bonnie's future. Kat Graham, who plays the character, promised in a TV Line chat that a big reveal on her future boyfriend will take place in the installment, as well as how evil Lily really is.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 episode 5 "Live Through This" airs Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
