Netflix has finally revealed the premiere for the much-awaited action series "The Punisher." According to its latest trailer, the show is launching on Nov. 17.
"The Punisher" is the sixth and latest addition to Marvel's Netflixverse, which currently includes "Daredevil, "The Defenders," "Luke Cage," "Jessica Jones" and "Iron Fist." It follows the story of Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal), a former U.S. Marine who will find himself entangled in a government conspiracy as he avenges his family's death.
While the series' first trailer shows how the murder of Castle's family forced him to be a hard-core vigilante, the second trailer is more focused on his history, going back to his time in the Marine Corps.
In the trailer, Castle is shown with his fellow soldiers, regretting what seems to be an operation gone wrong. As he returns home, a hacker contacts him to reveal that he was used as a hitman, prompting him to go after his former superiors and ultimately against the government.
Castle's character as The Punisher was first introduced in "Daredevil" season 2 before Netflix ordered a spin-off. Prior to the release of its second trailer, Netflix never really announced a release date, although previous teasers pushed many to speculate that it was to be launched during New York Comic Con in early October.
Following the mass shooting in Las Vegas on Oct. 1, however, Marvel and Netflix postponed the Comic Con panel for "The Punisher."
"We are stunned and saddened by this week's senseless act in Las Vegas... Our thoughts continue to be with the victims and those affected by this tragedy," the joint statement said.
Considering the violent trigger-happy nature of the series, it did seem like the proper move at that time.
"The Punisher" will run for 13 episodes. Bernthal will be joined by Ebon Moss-Bachrach (David Lieberman), Jason R. Moore (Curtis Hoyle) and Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), among others.
