Legend of Zelda Wii U release date news: date change? announcement on Nintendo website switches from March 2017 to just 2017

The Legend of Zelda Wii U Nintendo

Fans got excited when they learned that "The Legend of Zelda" for Wii U will be launching by March 2017. This is supposed to be alongside the upcoming Nintendo video game console, the NX. Afterwards, a fan noticed that the date has changed on the company's website. It now simply says 2017.

It was highly anticipated that "The Legend of Zelda" for the Wii U will be released by March 2017, as was previously reported. However, it seems that it will never happen for that specific month, but rather, it may happen anytime during the year instead, as it is now said on the Nintendo website.

A NeoGAF member that goes by the name of TunaLover posted a screen capture of the first posting with the March date, and the fan mentioned the change just several days after the announcement. The discussion board is full of reactions of disappointment from the fans, as expected. Several have also theorized that there must have been a miscommunication inside Nintendo, hence the misinformation. The company has not offered any official explanation for the said changes.

"The Legend of Zelda" Wii U was first announced back in 2013, then shown to the fans during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2014. The game was scheduled to be released by 2015. In March 2015, it was moved to a 2016 date, then came the March 2017 release announcement and finally, this.

Nevertheless, fans are still hoping that the game will be featured at the upcoming E3, which will happen in mid-June.

Nintendo of Europe issued a press release previously, and said, "E3: Nintendo changes its approach to the show every year. This June, Nintendo will focus its attentions on the upcoming game in The Legend of Zelda series. The Wii U version of the game will be playable for the first time on the E3 show floor, and it will be the only playable game Nintendo presents at the show, in order to provide attendees a complete immersion. Additional information about Nintendo's E3 plans will be announced in the future," reported by Nintendo Life.
