While a lot of people are still anticipating a sequel to "The Last of Us", rumors have begun circulating that the sequel may be released at the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo around June 2016.
The reason for the rumors is because of a video of Nolan North, the voice actor for David, stating that he knew about the sequel while attending the Metrocon Anime Convention in Florida almost a year ago.
However, this was sadly refuted by Troy Baker, the voice actor for Joel, one of the game's primary protagonists in the Indy Popcon 2015.
"A sequel to the Last Of Us? By the way, I know nothing. I don't know if we're going to do another one or not. If we do, I trust Neil and everyone else at Naughty Dog to tell a story that needs to be told," Baker said in the interview.
In January 2016, Nolan North retracted his statement, saying in the interview that he was speaking from a fan's standpoint and that he actually knew nothing about it. He even said that he immediately called Naughty Dog to apologize, in which case the developers told him it was fine and that they just laughed it off.
While of course the official announcement hasn't been released yet, that doesn't mean that the sequel doesn't exist. Apparently, " The Last of Us 2" has been the subject of many discussions within Naughty Dog. However, given the fact that the company is still focusing on "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End"--which is due for release this month, the sequel might take years to fully materialize.
According to Game Rant, Naughty Dog releases games every two or three years. So if this pattern is followed, then it's most likely that "The Last of Us" will release its first official footage by 2017. They also projected that the game itself will be released around late 2018 or early 2019 as an exclusive game for PlayStation 4.
