"The Good Wife" just keeps getting better and better. The show's midseason finale saw Eli's (Alan Cumming) guilt get the better of him by telling Alicia (Julianna Margulies) about something he had done way back in season 1. Talk about a build up!

Eli confessed to Alicia that he had deleted one of her voicemails from Will Gardner (Josh Charles) all those years ago. The voicemail contained Will's declaration of love for Alicia and his intention to be with her, no matter the risks. Eli had erased it out of fear that it would negatively affect Peter's (Chris Noth) career.

Fans went wild over the revelation, but they will have to wait a little bit longer before they can witness the rest of the season.

The back half of the seventh season will most probably show the consequences of Eli's actions. His relationship with Alicia will become expectedly strained and there is no telling whether Alicia will forgive him. After all, if Eli had not erased the message, things might have turned out differently for everyone, especially Will and Alicia.

Producers Robert and Michelle King sat down with Entertainment Weekly recently to discuss the events of the midseason finale, as well as what's in store for viewers once "The Good Wife" resumes next year.

The writers reportedly always intended on having Eli confess the secret to Alicia, but were just waiting for the right time. Apparently, the right time came in the form of a midseason finale cliffhanger that nearly drove fans insane.

The producers also spoke about Eli's reasons for revealing the secret he'd been keeping for so long. One reason is that he's feeling susceptible over Courtney's (Vanessa Williams) departure. But another reason is that he really wants Alicia to be happy this time around (and not ruin it for her like he did years ago).

In other news, fans have been wondering about Cary's (Matt Czuchry) sexual orientation after an episode from season 7 seemed to hint at it. But TVLine reports that it was nothing more but a misunderstanding.

Robert has cleared the air on the matter. The producer explained: "We liked how Cary was out of step in trying to get in touch with the newest generation coming into the law firm. He wanted to belong and he wanted them to feel like they belonged. And of course it's misinterpreted by the young associate as a come-on."

"The Good Wife" season 7 returns on Jan. 10 on CBS.
