'The Flash' episode 18 spoilers: A sudden turn of events with Eobard Thawne?

 Wikipedia

If you caught the last episode of the Flash titled "Tricksters", it was revealed that Dr. Harrison Wells is well, not the actual Dr. Harrison Wells. Many have been playing with the idea that Wells is as evil as they come but a prior occurrence apparently sheds light on how the various twists of the episodes from the Flash's first season came to be.

The Dr. Wells everyone knows from real time is not who he really is. Rather, his identity was robbed during the time when Wells was still a promising scientist.

During the climax where The Flash and the Reverse Flash (Eobard Thawne) found themselves speeding and ultimately claiming the life of Barry Allen's mother Nora, Thawne found himself stuck in a specific time frame when the Speed Force broke down.

Upon analysis, it seemed that the Reverse Flash was actually aiming to kill a young Barry Allen but the Flash averted the said intent. However, Thawne went for the next best thing, killing Flash's mother.

With the series wrapped in a series of confusing twists due to the time travel element, Thawne is apparently doing his mischief to try and get his time-travel capabilities back on track.

However, what becomes of the Flash?

At some point it may not be surprising to find the Flash losing his powers, no thanks to Thawne. That is something fans may expect from future episodes. On how the Flash gets his powers back could perhaps be tied up with an animated flick, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox.

With regards to Wells, the Thawne twist practically eliminates him from the equation. There was no real Dr. Harrison Wells to begin with. So could this mean that Tom Cavanagh is out after season one of the Flash?

It may be difficult to conclude right now. Anything is still possible considering the time travel angel. However do recall, it was Cavanagh who told Barry not to mess with the course of time.

Flash is expected to cease from saving his mother. Could he do the same or make Wells an exception?
