It's been a whirlwind season 3 of "The Flash" and it finally came to an end during the season finale. While fans may be happy with some events, it ultimately ended on a heartbreaking note.

The death of Iris (Candice Patton) at the hands of Savitar turned out to false. The fan theory proved to be true after all. It was not Iris who died, but HG (Tom Cavanaugh) who received the stab and died in the arms of Tracy (Anne Dudek). H.R. felt guilty about telling Savitar where to find Iris in Earth-2, and therefore made the sacrifice to save her life by losing his own.

The team was finally able to defeat Savitar, but not before Barry actually offered him a chance to live as a normal person and even be a part of the team. While the villain of "The Flash" season 3 seemed to consider the idea, ultimately, he decided to keep his evil ways and even set Star Labs to explode through the philosopher's stone.

After an epic battle where Cisco (Carlos Valdes) proved instrumental in destroying Savitar's suit, the evil version of Barry finally was brought down by a shot from Iris. All seemed well in the Flash universe. Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker) decided not to turn back into Caitlin Snow, despite Julian (Tim Felton) coming up with the formula to turn her back. She decided to find herself for the time being, and asked the team to give her space.

Barry and Iris' happy ending had to be put on hold for the meantime, however, as the Speed Force, with the death of Savitar, required a prisoner. Barry decided to volunteer as the prisoner, and the team gave him a heartbreaking goodbye.

"The Flash" will be back with season 4 this coming fall on The CW. There are reports that the new villain will be different from the previous ones, as this time, it will not be a speedster. According to Den of Geek, it is most likely Devoe, based on clues presented during season 3.
