Elizabeth's (Megan Boone) past has long been shrouded in mystery, but her history will soon be unraveled in "The Blacklist" season 4, thanks to the arrival of Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen).

In the previous season, Kirk claimed to be Liz's father. Executive producer Jon Bokenkamp advises that fans should "take him at his word," as per Entertainment Weekly, which could mean that he might be telling the truth.

Whatever the knowledge Kirk has will make sense of the biggest mysteries in Liz's life — from Reddington's (James Spader) innate overprotection, down to her mother's (Lotte Verbeek) secrets.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Boone says that her character will learn more about who Red is to her as she learns more about the mother she never knew.

"Through the investigation of Alexander Kirk, she finds a lot of her mother's memorabilia and private journals," Boone revealed as she teased about Liz's dealings in "The Blacklist" season 4.

"A lot is revealed to her about her mother, who she's known nothing about her whole life, and through her mother, she learns actually a lot more about Reddington," she went on to say.

In the previous season of "The Blacklist," Liz faked her death in order to stay away from Red and finally live the normal life with the family that she always longed for.

The actress said that all this time, it is who Liz really is that actually pushes Red to be so overprotective of her.

"What comes to light is that it's not really Reddington bringing all of this upon her, it's her own history and where she comes from," Boone explained.

"Something you start to realize through season 4 is she was strapped with this from birth," she further teased.

"The Blacklist" season 4 premieres on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
