'Tekken 7' PS4 release date: New gameplay video features Akuma's story; Game to arrive in early 2017

"Tekken 7" producer Bandai Namco showed a demo gameplay for the console version of their upcoming offering during the recently concluded PAX West event in Seattle. The demo featured the beginning of Akuma's story mode.

The video, from Dual Shockers, features Akuma, the first "Street Fighter"character to crossover the "Tekken" series. The trailer shows the newcomer immediately confronting Heichachi Mishima inside the latter's dojo. Unknown assailants suddenly show up in the middle of the fight, which gives Akuma no choice but to use his Hadoken, Goshoryuken and Tatsumaki Senpukyaku moves. The presentation also shows him using Gou Hadou, Messatsu and Shun Goku Satsu (Raging Demon).

Meanwhile, game producer Katsuhiro Harada revealed his post-launch plans for "Tekken 7.' There is a big possibility that paid DLC packs will arrive in the game. Although he believes that fighting games should be released as a complete package, players would still be wanting to have additional content sooner or later. Harada also believes that fans want to have new and different gaming experience every once in a while.

Harada then said, "Recently with the digital purchases and such a lot of people, the players especially, are saying that they don't mind paying, that they still want to see some new content after release. So since the voices are becoming more and more larger, I guess you could say, it is something that we want to think about seriously and perhaps change our point of view," according to Segment Next.

The roster for the upcoming game includes Jin, Kazuya, Hwoarang, Heihachi, Asuka, Alisa, Lili, Xiaoyu, Steve Fox, Paul Phoenix, King, Marshall Law, Yoshimitsu, Bryan Fury, Dragunov, Feng Wei, Lars, Leo, Nina, Devil Jin, Bob, and Lee/Violet. New characters are also expected to come along, such as Serafino, Claudio Katarina Alves, Josie Rizal, Lucky Chloe, Jack-7, Shaheen, Gigas, Master Raven, Kazumi Mishima and Akuma.

"Tekken 7's" arcade version was released in Japan last year while the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC versions will arrive early 2017.
