Taylor Swift new song 'Gorgeous' video, reviews: Lyrics bring back singer's light side

Looks like the old Taylor Swift can come to the phone after all, as she released the third single from her upcoming album "Reputation."

As the clock struck midnight on Friday, Swift dropped a lyric video for her new song "Gorgeous." To her many fans and some anti-fans' surprise, it showed a hint of the old pop star.

After the not-so-positive reviews for her previous songs "Look What You Made Me Do" and "...Ready for It?" critics thought the 27-year-old singer had lost it. But her new single indicates signs of revival.

The song talks about a gorgeous guy she met at a time when she was still dating another man. "I got a boyfriend, he's older than us," the lyrics read.

Critics were quick to hypothesize who the three characters in the story are — Swift, 27; her current boyfriend British actor Joe Alwyn, 26; and her ex-boyfriend Tom Hiddleston, 36.

Writing about a boy is nothing new in Swift's book, and this song is no different. As she has confirmed to her fans on Tumblr, "Gorgeous" is all about her current beau, although the two have yet to make their public debut. Their relationship first made headlines in May and a source recently told Us Weekly that they are "very much in love."

What is most obvious in this new single is the lack of the vengeful and angry Swift that was very apparent and direct in her previous songs. "Gorgeous" brings back the lighter side of the singer. But maybe not too far back and innocent as "Sparks Fly" (2010), as the song talks about a woman under the influence of alcohol: "You should take it as a compliment that I got drunk and made fun of the way you talk." This brings it closer to her 2014 hit "Blank Space."

Still, the song is far from the parental guidance-needed content of her recent releases. It even starts with what sounds like a toddler saying gorgeous before the song plays.

Rumor has it that it's James Reynolds, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynold's two-year-old daughter. Although it could also possibly be Swift's godson Leo Thames Newman, son of Jaime King.

"Gorgeous" was co-written and co-produced with Max Martin and Shellback, who Swift also worked with on her "Red" and "1989" albums. It is the third single off her sixth album, "Reputation," which is slated for release on Nov. 10.
