'Switched at Birth' season 5 spoilers: Bay and Daphne to return in new episodes

Switched at Birth ABC Family

Daphne and Bay's stay in China is about to be cut short with a phone call that the show will shed light on in "Switched at Birth" season 5. There's no definite date for the show's return but what's set in stone is that the family drama will be back.

Even before the fourth season wrapped up, ABC Family already renewed the show for a fifth run. When the show returns on air, the network will take on the name Freeform. The change will take place at the start of 2016.

"Every season 'Switched at Birth' continues to deliver fresh, relatable storylines that tackle important social issues, reflecting what our audience experiences daily," ABC Family Executive Vice President of Programming and Development Karey Burke said (via Carter Matt).

Just like everyone else, Burke is thrilled to see where "Switched at Birth" season takes the characters many viewers have come to know and love. She trusts that show creator Lizzy Weiss has some exciting things up her sleeve for the series.

The season 4 ender titled "And Always Searching for Beauty" was aired back in Oct. 26. It dropped a considerable amount of shockers including the time-jump that fans did not see coming. What was planned as a 6-week vacation in China was prolonged to 10 months.

In that amount of time, Daphne and Bay established life in the country. The former is now working at a health clinic while the latter is making a living out of her tattoo skills. During a TV Line interview, Weiss revealed that time-jump served a purpose – it took the protagonists into their futures.

In the chat, Weiss hinted that Bay and Daphne will return home in "Switched at Birth" season 5.She teased that they might do another time-jump again just to shift things around.

Fans are also aching to know what will bring Daphne and Bay home as well as the future of the Bay-Emmett romance and the possible financial problem with Craig and Kathryn.

"Switched at Birth" season 5 will premiere at some point next year.
