A new report hints that Microsoft is working on a powerful smartphone. According to WMPowerUser, the software giant, which just released its new operating system Windows 10, has a new mobile product up its sleeve codenamed "Project Juggernaut Alpha."

By the sound of the moniker, it would seem that the device is of redoubtable making, and according to the aforementioned publication, it really does have a stellar specs sheet to boast. The smartphone, which is allegedly in Microsoft's testbeds, will reportedly be called Surface Mobile when it is released.

The smartphone is said to come with a 5.5-inch Quad HD display along with a 64-bit Intel Atom x3 (SoFIA) chipset. This will reportedly be combined with either 3 GB or 4 GB worth of internal memory along with storage options going as high as 64 GB and 128 GB. A microSD slot will be included even with such space.

It is expected to feature a hefty 21 MP Zeiss 6-lens shooter on its rear, which is said to be of PureView makings. This ought to be a very powerful camera and would make the Microsoft Surface Mobile irresistible to photo-loving users. Selfies will look nice with its 8 MP Zeiss Wide-Angle snapper.

The purported Surface Mobile is likely getting a reversible USB Type-C connector, and users can also charge it wirelessly. The device might also be the first Windows 10-laden handset. On the design department, the smartphone will get a unibody metal chassis for ultimate sleekness. Lastly, it is speculated that Microsoft will incorporate a Surface tablet trademark accessory, the Surface pen, with the device.

If the rumors prove accurate, then this package should threaten Apple and Samsung, which are the reigning smartphone makers in the field right now.

It remains to be seen as to when the Redmond-based company will release the Microsoft Surface Mobile. Fans of Windows phones hope it will happen soon, as a flagship is long overdue.
