'Super Smash Bros. 4' DLC character update: Cloud Strife joins roster

Super Smash Bros. 4 - Cloud Nintendo

"Final Fantasy" fans who happen to play "Super Smash Bros 4" would love to know that "Final Fantasy VII" protagonist Cloud Strife will be a playable character in the game. Nintendo showed the cult-favorite Ultima Weapon-wielding character in action in a trailer screened during the recent Nintendo Direct event.

In the action-packed clip titled "Cloud Storms into Battle," it was showcased just how battle-ready Cloud Strife is. Armed with his trusty weapon, which also serves as his trademark, the spiky-haired mercenary-slash-hero demonstrated his power in a battle against every character in the game's roster.

The warrior gave the other "Super Smash Bros 4" characters a beatdown and he looked good while he was at it. Cloud Strife showed his signature Odin Summon move as he performed impressive edge breaks on every opponent he battled in different locations.

According to Vine Report, Cloud Strife is one of the characters fans elected to appear in the 3Ds/Wii U game. Notably, he fits very well in the world of "Super Smash Bros. 4" but the news still comes as a big shock knowing that there were no hints or news about his arrival in the brawl game.

Having appeared in tons of titles, Cloud Strife is very much welcome to the fold and is very suitable to "Super Smash Bros. 4" as well. He was featured largely in "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children," "Kingdom Hearts" and "Dissidia."

The beloved character also made appearances on a long list of games (most notably "Final Fantasy" spinoffs), including "Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII," "Dirge of Cerberus – Final Fantasy VII" "Chocobo Racing" and "Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring."

According to reports, Cloud Strife is just the first of the litany of characters set to grace "Super Smash Bros. 4." Rumor has it that Nintendo will reveal more about its roster plans on the game in next month's Nintendo Direct.
