'Star Wars Episode VIII' movie update: Daisy Ridley polishes lightsaber skills

Daisy Ridley may have had some shortcomings with her lightsaber skills in the "Star Wars: Episode VII," but the actress is now busy improving her fighting form for the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VIII."

In her Facebook page, the actress shared a short video clip showing several seconds of her lightsaber training for "Episode VIII" together with Liang Yang, the actor who portrays the role of Stormtrooper FN-2199 in the movie franchise.

But despite her impressive improvements seen in the video, the actress revealed that her fighting skills are still "not great."

Meanwhile, "Episode VII" co-writer Lawrence Kasdan and actor Oscar Isaac talked about what fans should expect from film director Rian Johnson as he helms the upcoming installment from the "Star Wars" franchise.

"If you've seen Rian's work, you know it's not going be like anything that's ever been in 'Star Wars,'" Kasdan told Los Angeles Times.

Isaac also agreed that the upcoming film will be different compared to the previous ones. During the press promo for "X-Men: Apocalypse," Isaac agreed with Kasdan's statement. "Rian is definitely going to places and investigating things that haven't really been done in the 'Star Wars' universe. For me, it's so fun getting to explore different things that I wouldn't have expected in this universe," the actor said.

However, both the writer and the actor did not provide further details about how different "Episode VIII" will be at the hands of "Brick" director. "In some ways it feels like we're making an independent film," Isaac simply revealed.

"Star Wars: Episode VIII" will see the return of actors Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, John Boyega as Finn, Isaac as Poe Dameron, Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux, and Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, among others.

The film is scheduled for release on December 15, 2017.
