Talks and rumors about the hotly anticipated "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" follow-up "Star Wars: Episode 8" have commenced. John Boyega, who played the role of Stormtrooper-gone-rogue Finn in the former, fueled the conversation by talking about the next movie's tone.
During an interview with Vogue, the actor revealed that the film will be "much darker" than the blockbuster hit before it. According to IGN, this mirrors the theme of the original trilogy, where "Empire Strikes Back" also had the more brooding nature than "A New Hope."
Boyega also teased that his character's dealings in "Star Wars: Episode 8" will be more strenuous compared to the first one, which could mean that there will be more fight scenes for Finn. "My part in the next film will be much more physical so I might be in the gym a bit more," he explained.
"Star Wars: Episode 8" will be directed by Rian Johnson, who was revealed to be working in coordination with "Episode 9" helmer Colin Trevorrow in order for their take on the upcoming films of the celebrated space opera franchise to harmonize.
"A story must evolve or perish, and Rian and I are working closely together to make sure our stories build off of each other and continue to evolve and take us to new places, and I think that's what the fans expect and what they want," Trevorrow told Entertainment Tonight.
In the same interview, the "Jurassic World" director also touched on how big "Star Wars" has become over the years, especially with more movies like "Rogue One" and the Han Solo film in the works. Trevorrow had nothing but phrases for George Lucas aka the creator of the galaxy far, far away.
He said that the premise of the movies, which have built their very own movie genre, may have sounded "insane" and "crazy" when Lucas first pitched it but it no one can change the fact that it is still "the greatest story ever told."
"Star Wars: Episode 8" will be released May 26, 2017.
