Michael Keaton could once again do another superhero movie if the "Spider-Man: Homecoming" casting rumors turn out to be true.
Sources revealed to Variety that the actor is in talks to portray the role of the villain in the upcoming reboot in the "Spider-Man" franchise.
This will be Keaton's second venture into superhero comics after the highly successful Tim Burton film "Batman" in 1989 and its sequel, "Batman Returns," in 1992.
Keaton could work alongside Marisa Tomei, who is set to portray the role of Aunt May in the film, while Zendaya is also confirmed to play a mystery role in the movie.
Tom Holland is set to portray the titular role.
Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man and Chris Evans's Captain America are also said to appear in the movie after their upcoming "Captain America: Civil War," which will be released on May 6. In the first clip of "Spider-Man: Homecoming" presented by during the CinemaCon early this week, Peter Parker meets Tony Stark in Aunt May's home.
Holland's debut as Spider-Man will happen in "Captain America: Civil War," where he will be involved in the altercation between the members of the Avengers.
Details about the film's plot remain a secret, but Marvel and Sony tapped Jon Watts to direct the upcoming film using the screenplay written by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.
Speculations about the plot claim that it could be adapted from either one of the two major "Spider-Man" arcs titled "Homecoming." Once centers on Peter Parker's return as Spider-Man after his villain Doctor Octopus took over his superhero identity. The other arc introduced Venom. However, none of the arcs have been confirmed to be the central plot of the upcoming film.
"Spider-Man: Homecoming" is scheduled for release on July 7, 2017.
