Spartacus actor to play guardian angel in Mark Burnett and Roma Downey's new TV show Unveiled

Liam McIntyre is no stranger to historical shows. In fact, he played the title role in the epic television series Spartacus, which tells the story of how a group of gladiators came together and started a massive rebellion against the mighty Roman empire.

Now, McIntyre will take on a completely different role. As a gladiator, his character killed for a living, but this time, he will be an angel guiding humans towards the right path in Mark Burnett and Roma Downey's new faith-based drama called Unveiled.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the Spartacus alum will play Michael Hunter, a somewhat reluctant and jaded guardian angel who is constantly rebelling against the rules. His approach towards helping humans is sometimes harsh but honest, and just like his brother Lucas, a fallen angel, he believes that it is futile to save mankind.

Unveiled is all about flawed guardian angels who step into the lives of humans who are currently undergoing crisis. The angels' job is to restore mankind's faith and save their lives. Aside from McIntyre's character Michael, Canadian actor Stephan James (Selma) will reportedly be playing a rookie guardian angel named Daniel. No other details about who will play the other guardian angels have been provided yet.

The script will be written and produced by John Sakmar and Kerry Lenhart alongside Burnett and Downey, the couple responsible for other faith-based dramas like The Bible, A.D. The Bible Continued, and Dovekeepers. Universal Television and LightWorkers Media will produce the series.

When Downey first talked about her Dovekeepers project during the Television Critics Association, she said that the success of The Bible only proves that people are eager for inspirational shows.

"I think it shows that people are interested in these themes and that they're hungry for product that inspires. And so, I'm encouraged by that hunger and delighted because it's the kind of stuff I like to make," she said.
