It looks like Mary will very much be a part of "the team" come "Sherlock" season 4. During an interview about the show's Christmas special "The Abominable Bride" (watch below),  program co-creator Mark Gatiss revealed that they have taken steps to incorporate Mary into the Sherlock-Watson team-up.

"We deliberately set out to make it like the best times for the three of them as a new team, that they would really have a great time," Gatiss said. For those who are not in the know, Mary was revealed to be a "super-agent" in the third episode of "Sherlock" season 3 titled "His Last Vow."

"And the special really does bridge that in so many ways. Even though Mary is very proactive and a huge part, it's a sort of breathing space between 'Vow' and the next one," Gatiss went on to explain.

Mary is changed irrevocably in the said episode when her past as an agent, which she fought hard to conceal, was revealed. With her skills as an assassin, it seems that she fits right in Sherlock and Watson's dynamic. That being said, she could be hanging out with the duo a lot more in "Sherlock" season 4.

As for those hoping to see Moriarty in action come "Sherlock" season 4, series co-creator Steven Moffat only had this to say: "I think what we can say is we may or may not see more of Andrew Scott as Moriarty."

As if Moffat could not be coy enough, he stated that the highly anticipated new season of the drama will "address the outstanding issues." What these so-called "outstanding issues" are, he did not bother to specify.

It is, however, expected that "Sherlock" season 4 will shed light on Moriarty, who killed  himself by the end of the second season, appearing in a static image on TV screens asking "Miss me?" Mary's past might also be further explored as well as the identity of the third Holmes brother.

Gatiss and Moffat are in the middle of writing the script for "Sherlock" season 4. There's still no release date for the new season but Moffat promises that fans can look forward to "big moments."
