One Direction fans were already psyched after hearing rumors about Harry Styles' reported appearance in "Scream Queens" season 2. But the reports turned out to be a hoax.

The rumors began when Lea Michele mentioned the British pop star's name during the cast's appearance at this year's PaleyFest last weekend. It even led to a funny banter between her and co-star Emma Roberts on stage about who should be Styles's love interest on the show.

Talks about Styles's appearance on the show could also be fueled by the statement of executive producer Brad Falchuk to HollywoodLife, saying that they are looking for several handsome actors who could be cast as series regulars for season 2.

"We're trying to find three great guys to play these three hunky doctors. So it's more about finding those guys, and they'll be series regulars," Falchuk said.

But according to a post by the show's official Twitter account, the One Direction member will not be joining the cast.

However, the PaleyFest appearance confirmed that aside from Michele and Roberts, several members of the season 1 cast will return for the sophomore season of "Scream Queens." They include Jamie Lee Curtis, Keke Palmer, Abigail Breslin and Billie Lourd.

Falchuk also revealed during the PaleyFest appearance that the writers of the show are already in the early stages of creating the script for season 2, and the plot will move from the Wallace University campus to a hospital.

"Dean Munsch has moved on to great success, she's abolished the Greek system in the country...she's written her book, she's traveled the world, and is like, 'I need a new mission'," Falchuk said, as reported by Deadline. This brought Curtis's character into the health care industry.

Fox has yet to announce the premiere date of "Scream Queens" season 2.
