'Scandal' season 6 spoilers: will Fitz and Liv get back together again?

Now that Fitz Grant (Tony Goldwyn) is about to step down for his post as the President of the United States, fans are hoping that he and Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) will have another chance to be together in "Scandal" season 6.

In the season 5 finale, Fitz discovered that he and Olivia were supposed to have a child together, but she decided to abort the pregnancy. Despite his usual pro-life stand, he decided to support her in her decision without telling her that he already knew about her secret.

"Fitz's about-face is completely a function of his love for Olivia," Goldwyn told The Hollywood Reporter, saying that Fitz's pro-choice stand is actually impressive. "He was pro-life and, more relevant, he wanted a child with Olivia more than anything in the world. But he somehow understands that Olivia made a very personal choice and he instinctively respects that. It is a giant 180 for the man. But he is willing to sacrifice anything for her happiness."

Yet despite Fitz's hope of reconciling with the love of his life and living peacefully in Vermont, it appears that Olivia has other plans based on her reaction on the season 5 finale. In the clip, she is shown gearing up for Mellie (Bellamy Young) and Jake's (Scott Foley) presidential and vice-presidential bids. She also appears to have chosen Jake over Fitz this time.

In an interview with Variety, Foley said that it would be possible to see the end of Fitz and Olivia's love story for good.

"Maybe when he's out of the White House, he will be a more viable option and a free man. But personally, I would like to see Olivia on her own for a bit. Just making choices that make her happy, regardless of the men in her life," the actor said.

"Scandal" season 6 is expected to return this fall to ABC.
