Samsung Galaxy S7 rumors: Carrier, release date, specs and features revealed

Samsung Galaxy S6 Samsung

Samsung's latest devices, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5, are still less than a year old but rumor has it that the Korean tech company is already working on another device, the Galaxy S7, which is set to arrive in 2016.

Leak reports of the S7 started in September and continued on until today, with the latest being about the device having been tested by a top mobile carrier in the United States.

The news comes from known technology industry tipster Evan Blass aka @evleaks, who posted on Twitter on Nov. 14 revealing that AT&T has tested two devices carrying model numbers SM-G930A and -G935A.

The model numbers are presumed to be two variants of the device--Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, based on the minor differences in the model numbers of the currently available devices, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

If this rumor proves to be true, the device could also stick to its speculated early to mid-2016 release. This speculation also coincides with Samsung's pattern for unveiling a new phone. Traditionally, the Korean tech launches a new Galaxy S series at the Mobile World Congress, which usually takes place in late February or early in March.

As for the specs, not much has been revealed about the Galaxy S7, but rumors suggest that the device will be made from magnesium alloy, as noted by GSM Arena. Furthermore, the device will reportedly have a USB Type-C port and boast of a technology much like the 3D Touch.

Since it is an upcoming device, some units of Galaxy S7 are rumored to carry a Snapdragon 820, while some will carry the next generation Exynos 8890 chipset. The former will target Chinese and U.S. markets, while the latter will cater to all other markets.

Pricing details have not been leaked, but according to a report from GforGames, Galaxy S7 could come out 10 percent cheaper than the Galaxy S6.
