While Adult Swim remains silent about the possible release date of "Rick and Morty" season 3, the cable network opted to release a series of four animated shorts in time for Halloween.

New reports revealed that the cable network worked with Claymation's Lee Hardcastle to work on horror-themed animated short films dubbed as "Rick and Morty: The Non-Canonical Adventures."

All the films, which are about 16 to 18 seconds long, were released right before Halloween. It features the eccentric scientist Rick, his distressed teenage grandson Morty, and the rest of their family in different horrific situations. The short films were based on several popular movies, including "The Thing," "Ex Machina," "The Fly," as well as "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids."

"Rick and Morty: The Non-Canonical Adventures" are expected to lessen the fans' longings for new episodes of Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon's animated sci-fi comedy.

Meanwhile, the third season of "Rick and Morty" is rumored to premiere sometime in December 2016.

Based on a report from Inverse, scriptwriters Erica Rosbe and Sarah Carbiener confirmed the news during an interview on a podcast episode of Chicks Who Script. However, the specific date is still kept under wraps.

The plot of the series is also unrevealed at the moment. But speculations claim that Rick will try to break out of the Galactic Federation prison.

There are also reports claiming that the Gromflomite assassin named Krombopolous Michael will return in one of the episodes of the upcoming season. The character was last seen in season 2 when he was crushed by Rick's spaceship.

Other reports claim that Rick's wife will make an appearance in the upcoming season, and she will be the key to the mad scientist's freedom.

The possible release date of the premiere episode of "Rick and Morty" season 3 is expected to be announced by Adult Swim soon.
