"Rick and Morty" fans were excited to learn that a third season would bring the duo back. Now, they can also expect the show to air few months earlier than originally planned. The creators of the adult animated science fiction sitcom are targeting a late 2016 release.

Fans were expecting the series to come back by March 2017, based on the closing credits of the show's finale episode for season 2. Mr. Poopybutthole mentioned that it would take a year and a half before the next one arrives, as previously reported.

However, according to Cinema Blend, during Magic City Comic Con, the show's creators, Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, said, "I think Season 3 is—we're targeting around the end of this year ... You guys do realize we're at the beginning of this year?"

Harmon added, "I don't think anybody wants to do a third season that simply spends a whole bunch of episodes dealing with a situation that we created at the end of the second season. So I think that's a non-spoiler way of saying things should be okay pretty quickly," which was about the season 2's cliffhanger, Inquisitr added.

Cartoon Network's Adult Swim ordered 14 episodes for the upcoming season, which is four more than season 2, while the first season was made up of only 11 episodes. During the initial run, the show gained a 100 percent approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 85 at Metacritic. The show gained a stronger fan base when season 2 aired. Rick and Morty were also featured in a 2015 episode of the "The Simpsons'" couch gag.

The cartoon series is about the interdimensional adventures of an alcoholic scientist named Rick and his grandson Morty.

"Rick and Morty's" third season premiere does not have a date yet, but fans are expecting the grandfather-grandson tandem to be back before the end of the year.
