"Resident Evil 7: Biohazard," the upcoming horror survival video game from developer and publisher Capcom, is scheduled to be released in January 2017, and the Xbox One version is already available for pre-order. However, it seems that the company is experiencing some difficulties in the game's development.
"Development was plagued by a series of difficulties," said Jun Takeuchi, the Managing Corporate Officer & Head of Consumer Games Development Division 1 at Capcom, as quoted by WCCF Tech. "This was because, in addition to the high-resolution, high-performance PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, we also decided to make the game compatible with the new PlayStation VR. With VR, we couldn't bring the game to market unless it had photorealistic graphics on par with live-action films," he went on to say.
Takeuchi said that the current conventional production methods take too much time and money, so the company decided to develop their new RE Engine. Apart from 3D scanning, he said that they also "increased the precision of our VR technologies." In other words, they are developing both the RE Engine and the game at the same time.
It seems Capcom is determined to lead the VR market through "Resident Evil 7."
"I am exceptionally enthusiastic about this new title," Takeuchi said. "This is because this year, which some are calling 'VR year one,' we will attempt to take the lead in this new market with RESIDENT EVIL 7."
For gamers who are looking forward to playing the game, it is now available for digital pre-order and pre-download on Xbox One. Major Nelson, however, reminds shoppers that, although it can be pre-downloaded, it won't be playable until the game's official release on Jan. 24 next year.
Gamers may choose from either of the two versions: the $59.99 standard edition, which includes the game and the Survival Pack: Recovery Set, and the $89.99 deluxe edition, which includes both of the said items plus the season pass.
"Resident Evil 7: Biohazard" will also be made available for the PlayStation 4 and Windows PC on Jan. 24, 2017.
