One major improvement that is confirmed for "Red Dead Redemption 2" is a multiplayer feature. Meanwhile, speculations suggest that coming from the same developer, the online multiplayer feature for the upcoming sequel will likely mirror "GTA Online."

Rockstar Games has already announced that "Red Dead Redemption 2 will have an online feature, and "the game's vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience."

According to Forbes, the online multiplayer for the sequel may offer a twist, but it will still share similar characteristics to its brother franchise, "Grand Theft Auto." The "GTA Online" feature for the fifth installment in the series is considered to be one of the money-makers in the "GTA" franchise that Rockstar Games continues to develop expansion content for. Just recently, the previously-rumored "Bikers" DLC went live for "GTA Online."

However, the industry follower adds that while "Red Dead Redemption 2" will offer the same structure as the multiplayer component for "GTA Online," it may also inherit some disadvantages for the game. Should the sequel's online feature also spell success for the franchise, Rockstar Games is expected to provide DLCs only to "RDR2 Online," leaving the story for the single-player campaign a straight-through narrative, without expansion. This has been the concern of hardcore fans for "GTA V." Due to the success of "GTA Online," the DLCs are focused on the feature, and an expansion for the original "GTA V" story, released in 2013, has yet to happen.

"Red Dead Redemption 2" has yet to be provided with a specific release date, although Rockstar Games teases the sequel to launch in Fall 2017. Meanwhile, it is already established that the sequel will launch on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Rockstar Games has not confirmed if it will release the game for the PC, but a version is also rumored to be coming out.
