'Red Dead Redemption 2' release date news: Announcement coming at E3 2016? rumored to have 2017 release

Red Dead Redemption Rockstar

"Red Dead Redemption" fans are expecting the next game in the series to be officially announced at the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo 2016. It is also speculated that the open-world gun-slinging game will be available by 2017 and will be officially called "Red Dead Redemption: Legends of the West."

Developer Rockstar remains tight-lipped on "Red Dead Redemption 2" even if it was accidentally released on the Xbox One store.

It also didn't escape the keen eyes of its followers when Take-Two Interactive Software, the parent company of Rockstar, mentioned in its fiscal report that "Rockstar Games is of course hard at work on some exciting future projects that will be revealed soon." It was understood that the game referred to was the rumored "Red Dead Redemption" game.

iDigital Times mentioned that the map that got leaked online was a real one, according to sources familiar with the matter. However, it is a map similar to the second game, thus, the game is rumored to be a prequel of "Red Dead Redemption."

Master Herald reported that the upcoming game is speculated to have "Red Dead Redemption: Legends of the West" as its official title and will feature the legendary Landon Ricketts, which fans have connected to the leaked map called, Blackwater Massacre. This map is a significant one for Ricketts, according to hardcore fans, and even John Marston, the main character in the second game, gave the utmost respect for the iconic figure.

If this proves to be true, the report added, gamers will have the chance to relive many of the gun fighting adventures of Ricketts.

For the meantime, fans can only expect an official announcement. Meanwhile, Take-Two made it clear in its earnings call that the developer will not have anything new for the current fiscal year, which is a bit of a disappointment for its followers.

The E3 2016 is scheduled for June 14 to 16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
