PS4 Slim Gold leak reveals price for 1 TB variant, release date

The new PlayStation 4 (PS4) Slim leaks suggest that Sony is launching a gold variant packed with 1 TB hard drive.

A photo of the packaging for the PS4 Slim Gold was shared by Reddit user named Sliye. Based on the box, the gold version will have a 1 TB HDD. It was not revealed, however, if this is the only option available for the PS4 Slim Gold. The PS4 Slim black currently carries both 500 GB and 1 TB variants.

Sliye, who works at U.S. retailer Target, also claimed that the console will be released on June 9. It's unclear if this pertains to a worldwide release date or just for the United States. Previous PS4 versions were released at different dates in various regions.

A separate post by Reddit user Christopher_Maxim backed up Sliye's claim. He said he took a picture of the PS4 Slim Gold box at Walmart just before employees took it to the back to their inventory.

"This Walmart put them out early. Register locked up when I tried to buy one and the staff realized their mistake," he said in his post.

The price indicated on the box of the 1 TB variant is $249, which is cheaper than the current price point for standard 1 TB consoles.

Currently, the PS4 Slim is available in two colors: matte black and glacier white. In the United States, however, the glacier white variant is only available through the "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" bundle exclusively sold by Walmart.

Sony previously rolled out a limited edition gold-colored PS4 in partnership with fast food chain Taco Bell as part of a contest hosted by the latter. On the other hand, the all-gold DualShock 4 controller has been available in all major retailers since late 2016. The said controller is priced at $64.99.

Meanwhile, Sony is expected to roll out new announcements at the upcoming Sony Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 Exhibit) on June 12.
