Following the success of live-action films based on fairy tale characters--mostly princesses-- Disney has now decided to give the go-signal for a movie based on Prince Charming.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Matt Fogel (Bob the Musical) has finished the script, and Mandeville Films/TV will be producing the Prince Charming movie. Alex Young from Mandeville was also reported to be the film's executive producer.

The script was offered to several studios but eventually got sold to Disney last week, in the hopes of following the success of several live-action fairy tale movies suitable for young audiences.

Prince Charming has been around since the dawn of fairy tales. Although his character has been portrayed by several charming actors, including Chris Pine and Richard Madden, it still doesn't have a lot of story behind it.

It remains unclear if the prince will be Snow White's or Cinderella's. In addition, sources told Variety that the movie's perspective would not be from the popular royal character, but from his less charming brother "who never lived up to the family name."

Not much is known about the movie or the character, but a story from Charming's brother's point of view seems interesting enough.

Details of the movie still need updating, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the script offers a "revisionist take" on the story.

Earlier this year, Disney was showered with success with Kenneth Branagh's version of "Cinderella," which starred Richard Madden from Game of Thrones as Prince Charming and Lily James as the titular character.

Apart from the success of "Cinderella," "Maleficent" and "Alice in Wonderland," Disney has also planned on creating a live-version for "Mulan," "Pocahontas" and "The Jungle Book."

The studio is currently working on a "Beauty and the Beast" live-action version which stars Emma Watson and Dan Stevens.
