After weeks of speculation that the show will be cancelled due to its disappearance from the NBC's lineup and website, the network has officially cancelled the DC Comics–inspired comedy series "Powerless."

After just nine episodes, the series has been axed by the network, according to TV Line. "Powerless" shows the lives of the employees at Wayne Industries as they work on new technology to help protect the people of Charm City from the destruction caused by battles between superheroes and supervillains. It stars Vanessa Hudgens as Emily Locke, the director of Research and Development at Wayne Security; Danny Pudi as chief design officer Teddy; Alan Tudyk as Bruce Wayne's cousin, Van Wayne; and Christina Kirk as Wayne's assistant, Jackie.

The cancellation, however, was no surprise, according to Deadline. "Powerless" garnered an average rating of 1.1 and 3.1 million viewers when it premiered in February, and it looks like it has never recovered since then, with the viewership declining every week. Even the show's latest episode, which aired on April 20, reportedly pulled a mere 0.6 demographic rating and 2.1 million total views.

There are still three more episodes left for the show titled "No Consequence Day," "Win, Luthor Draw," and "Van of the Year," but right now, it remains to be unclear if and when these will be aired, considering that NBC has pulled the show from its weekly schedule. According to Screen Rant, TV's original Batman, Adam West, was supposed to cameo in one of the episodes.

Despite the cancellation news, the show's lead star, singer-actress Vanessa Hudgens, does not seem too sad about it as she even shared her excitement that she will be hosting the Billboard Music Awards this year with hip-hop artist Ludacris.

On Twitter, she posted: "I'm so unbelievably excited to host the @BBMAs this year with @Ludacris! The party starts LIVE May 21 at 8e/5p on ABC. #BBMAs"
