'Pokémon GO' Eevee evolution: game to have two more evolutions with upcoming update

The current Eevee evolutions in the franchise wikia

Hardcore players have discovered that fans can control Eevee's evolution in "Pokémon GO." Speculations suggest that aside from the original three evolutions, Eevee will have two more on the second-gen roster coming out next year.

According to SlashGear, a second-gen update is reportedly planned by developer Niantic for "Pokémon GO," with the patch rolling out next year. The new update will add other characters as well as Pokémon evolutions. One such update will be unlocking at least two more evolutions for Eevee.

In the original franchise, Eevee has at least nine evolutions, and each evolution is unique. For "Pokémon GO" however, the norma-type Pokémon only has the three original evolutions – the fire-type Flareon, water-type Vaporeon, and lightning-type Jolteon. For the second-gen update, rumors suggest that Eevee will get an additional evolution stage to Espeon and Umbreon, depending on the time of day.

Espeon is a psychic-type Pokémon evolution, and reportedly, can be achieved by having Eevee evolve during daytime, which is from 4 a.m. to 5:59 p.m in-game. Meanwhile, evolving Eevee from 6 p.m. to 3:59 a.m. will result in Umbreon, a dark-type Pokémon.

It is yet unclear on how Niantic plans to do the update for Eevee, since there will also be high chances that the growth will result to the original three evolutions. According to speculations, Niantic is likely to introduce other in-game items to achieve the two new evolutions. In the franchise, Espeon and Umbreon can be achieved using high friendship points, plus a Sun shard for the former and Moon shard for the latter.

Niantic may also go into a customization feature for players to discover the two new evolutions. Currently, it has been reported that some players have successfully chosen an evolution path for Eevee by customizing names before evolution. Naming the Pokémon "Sparky" results to Jolteon, while customizing Eevee to "Rainer" evolves the Pokémon to Vaporeon, and "Pyro" to Flareon.
