PS4 Neo release date: Console expected in either September or October

The original PlayStation 4 from Sony Playstation.com

The PlayStation Neo is one of the video game consoles that are highly anticipated to arrive this year.

The Neo is not a next-gen console but the community is expecting upgraded hardware and that it will be paired with the upcoming PlayStation VR headgear. The current PlayStation 4 is not powerful enough for the headgear. Fans are now expecting that Sony will be unveiling its console by either September or October.

It was previously expected to show up during June's Electronic Entertainment Expo 2016, which did not happen. A reveal was also speculated to happen during the GamesCom 2016 in Cologne, Germany, as it is another great venue but Sony is not attending the event, according to the list.

There are still two major events happening this year, the Tokyo Game Show in September and the Paris Games Week scheduled in October. This events coincide with the previous rumors on the Neo's reveal date, PC Advisor UK reported.

The PlayStation Neo is rumored to contain 8 Jaguar cores with a speed of 2.1 GHz, 36 Compute Units at 911 MHz GPU, and a faster memory bandwidth speed of 218 GBps, although with the same capacity of 8GB GDDR5. The PlayStation 4 contains 8 Jaguar cores at 1.6 GHz, 18 Compute Units at 800 MHz. The improvements may look small when looking at the numbers, but it is a different matter when it comes to the performance upgrade it can provide. Storage capacity is not included in the upgraded parts. Overall, the upgrade is targeting a full 4K output, either on a display monitor or on the PSVR.

Additionally, the upcoming PlayStation 4.5 is not intended to replace the current console, but to "sit alongside and compliment the standard PS4," as Sony Interactive Entertainment president Andrew House said earlier. House added, "We will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle."

Game fans can expect more news in the months to come.
