With Sony's two hardware releases this year in the PlayStation Pro and PlayStation 4 Slim, it is difficult to fathom that fans are still clamoring for the release of the PlayStation 5. However, some would argue that while both consoles have their own selling points, it is still quite a splurge to jump into one of them only for the next-generation PlayStation console to be released sometime soon. Given that, a steady buzz of rumors is still spreading in an effort to speculate on what the PS5 might bring to the fast-changing gaming industry.
Rumors that the PS5 console is designed to also feature 4K resolution via the help of the latest AMD chipset sure sounds appealing. But it is also treading a similar path to that of the PS4 Pro whose main raison d'être is its capability to run games up to 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) resolution. Coming with a single-chip custom processor coupled with the x86-64 AMD Jaguar with eight cores, the console is more of a complementary device to the main PS4 and not a substitute. The PS5, on the other hand, will be more of a marriage between the PS4 and PS Pro without the need to have separate consoles to fully experience the wonders of 4K gaming.
Furthermore, with a buffer time of almost two years given that the PS5 is said to come in 2018 at the earliest, consumers will already be looking for a console upgrade even after owning the PS4 Pro. Senior correspondent for The Wall Street Journal and overall tech geek Takashi Mochizuki hinted that there is a huge possibility that the upcoming console will arrive in late 2018. Meanwhile, some are stretching the waiting time a bit more believing that the PS5 will be launching sometime in 2020 which is quite way off.
The latest rumors are also suggesting that a four-layer Blu-ray disc player will be available via the PS5 as well as improved Wi-Fi connectivity. Bigger memory storage is also said to be coming which is a bit of a no-brainer given the amount of games now coming to the mainstream gaming market.
