Panama start their tournament today hoping to replicate their showing in the Gold Cup from two years ago when they made it all the way through to the final. In the 2013 competition they knocked out Mexico on the way to the showcase final with the United States, where they eventually lost.
However, this time round they have been drawn into a very difficult group, which contains both the USA and Honduras, so they will have their work cut out to claim one of the top two spots in Group A.
If they are to progress they will see today's game as arguably their easiest group contest and they will want to make sure they claim all three points with a win in today's match.
This Panama team features a number of senior players in their late 20s and early 30s who have experienced the Gold Cup before a number of times, and that experience could see them through as things get tight. Nine of their players have more than 50 caps for their country, and they will know what they have to do to get the win today.
Haiti come into this year's Gold Cup with high hopes. Even though they are in a tough group, they will feel, as the relative minnows of the group, they have nothing to lose. They will also feel they have their best squad ever to appear at a Gold Cup, with a number of their players now featuring regularly in European leagues. They will be hoping to rock the boat a little and perhaps pull off a shock or two against the better recognized teams in their group.
