The epic story of Sarah Manning and her Leda sestras (Tatiana Maslany) will come to a close when "Orphan Black" after season 5.
Series co-creators Graeme Manson and John Fawcett confirmed in a statement obtained by Entertainment Weekly that "Orphan Black" will end next season. The statement reads:
"We are excited to deliver an epic conclusion to the tale of Sarah and her clone sisters. The past four seasons have been a phenomenal adventure and we are eternally grateful to our loyal fans who have loved the twists and thrills of our weird little show. We are thankful to our partners at Temple Street, and to BBC America and Space for their support and giving us the opportunity to end on a high."
Manson explained the reason why they decided to end the critically acclaimed drama thriller after season 5 in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, saying that he, Fawcett and Maslany chose to end the show while they are still on top.
"We just didn't want the show to become watered down. We really think it's cooler to cancel yourself," Manson said.
The series co-creator also said that he and Fawcett had always known how they want to see the end to the story since the beginning of the series. They always had this concept that was both "loose enough" so they can play with it as the show pans out each season, but "specific enough" to let them know where the plot will go.
But while the end of "Orphan Black" is right around the corner, talks about a spin-off keeps on popping up. Manson confirmed that there are loose talks about it, but he did not provide more information about it at this point.
BBC America is expected to reveal the premiere date of "Orphan Black" season 5 soon.
