Previous speculations placed Nvidia to be thinking of launching their much-awaited new lineup of GPUs as early as April. However, recent rumors suggest that the new Pascal graphics units will appear in the second of the year instead.
According to Tech Times, a number of supposed new details about the upcoming GPU lineup come to light, supposedly compiled by a tech observer from allegedly undisclosed presentations and slides. While there is no specific release date yet for the new lineup, it is listed that the Pascal lineup will appear in June at the earliest, since the launch is allegedly scheduled for the second half of 2016.
Meanwhile, it is also said that the previous April launch rumors are partly true. Indeed, Nvidia is said to showcase the new Pascal GPU in the upcoming GPU Technology Conference in April, but instead of officially unveiling the new graphics technology, the company will instead give details on its new lineup.
The industry follower said that the supposed leak listed other undisclosed details about the upcoming lineup. While it is rumored that Nvidia is preparing more than two iterations in the lineup, the report pegged down the number of new Pascal GPUs in the pipeline. Supposedly, Nvidia is currently testing at least four different iterations of the Pascal lineup, with focus on the flagship GPU, the GP100. While it is not specified which of the four will have the feature, the alleged leak also disclosed that the upcoming Pascal GPU will have exclusive compatibility with next-gen IBM PowerPC server processors, since the new graphics architecture will have NVLink support.
The Pascal series of GPU have been anticipated by tech observers since early last year. Based on rumored specs of the lineup, Nvidia has made the lineup with next-gen architecture, making the Pascal series one of the top-tier graphics solutions when it launches this year.
