NVIDIA recently announced the GeForce GTX 1060 to its growing Pascal family of gaming GPUs. Its latest offering is also as powerful as the GTX 980 but has a starting price of only US$249.

The GTX 1060 features 1,280 CUDA cores and 6GB of GDDR5 memory running at 8 Gb/s. It has a base clock of 1.5 GHz, boost clock of 1.7 GHz and can be easily overclocked to reach 2 GHz for better performance. It also contains 192-bit memory bus width, 192 GB/s memory bandwidth, which makes it 15 percent faster and over 75 percent more power-efficient than its closest competition, the AMD RX 480, NVIDIA announced on its website.

The latest GPU offering is based on the 16nm FinFET manufacturing process, the most advance at the moment, and offers a GTX 980-level of performance. It is also able to offer VR and DirectX 11 and 12 PC games with great speed and yet more power-efficient. In the games they tested, at 1080p resolution, the GTX 1060 consumed around 120 watts, while its rival GPU consumes 185 watts.

GSMArena added that its connectivity includes DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0b, and Dual Link-DVI. It can support a maximum resolution of 8K at 60Hz. The card needs a 6-pin connector to draw its power. The upcoming GPU also supports simultaneous multi-projection, Ansel, G-Sync, GPU Boost 3.0 and GameStream. However, SLI will not be supported.

"The GeForce GTX 1060 Founders Edition board -- designed and built by NVIDIA -- will be available starting July 19 for $299 at www.nvidia.com only. The GeForce GTX 1060 Founders Edition is crafted with premium materials and components, including a faceted die-cast aluminum body machine finished for strength and rigidity and a thermal solution designed to run cool and quiet," the company added.

The NVIDIA GTX 1060 will be available in two variants -- the Founders Edition, which comes directly from the company and costs US$299, and the standard OEM variant, which will come from various NVIDIA GeForce Partners like ASUS, Colorful, EVGA, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Innovision 3D, MSI, Palit, PNY and Zotac. It has an MSRP of US$249. Both variations will be available starting July 19.
