Nintendo's NX video game console is one of the highly anticipated gadgets, and it is scheduled to be released by March 2017, together with latest version of "The Legend of Zelda." However, it is not just the gaming fans that are excited about it; even retailers like GameStop are looking forward to it.

Mike Hogan, the company's executive vice president of strategic business and brand development, mentioned the upcoming game console during GameStop's first quarter earnings call for the fiscal year. He mentioned that if the Nintendo NX will perform better than the Wii U system, the company can produce US$2.7 billion in incremental sales, Nintendo Insider reported.

Hogan said, "Should the new NX perform only slightly better than the Wii U, it would generate 2.7 billion dollars in incremental sales over the first two years. Should it perform at even half of the level of the Wii, it would generated 7.5 billion units of incremental sales over that time frame. You can of course apply GameStop's market share to estimate the impact on GameStop's sales."

The EVP also mentioned to its investors that the figures are just not a sales projection but potential sales figures.

Additionally, there was also a rumor that the upcoming Nintendo NX will be bringing back cartridges and will be dumping the optical disc drive, and Hogan responded that they have seen it but know nothing about it. However, he mentioned that a physical media is always a good thing for their business.

Digital Trends reported that based on a market research survey that was posted back in January, the console may be able to support only 900p with a 60 fps gameplay resolution. This is a step backward since the Wii U video game console is able to produce up to 1080p resolution. However, video streaming quality is said to be at 4k resolution with 60 fps.

Fans can expect more news as the release date comes nearer for the Nintendo NX.
