Nina Dobrev leaving 'The Vampire Diaries' latest news: Finale episode prepares to bid farewell to actress

Nina Dobrev in The Vampire Diaries CW

Fans of 'The Vampire Diaries' were devastated when Nina Dobrev announced last month that she's leaving the show after season six. On Thursday, May 14, viewers will get to see Dobrev as Elena Gilbert for the last time on the hit The CW show, and even Dobrev admits that it will be "strange" leaving the show after being on it for six years.

"I've loved working on this show," she told Self Magazine for its June 2015 issue. "It's been such a crazy, awesome adventure, and I've been surrounded by so many people who I consider family."

"I know this is a new exciting step in the right direction for me, but it's going to be strange not to be with them," she adds.

As for her final episode on the show, the actress hinted that she won't be in great shape on the May 14 finale.

"I'm in the hospital. That's in the promo, [so] I can tell you that," she told The Hollywood Reporter. "I spent a lot of time horizontal, lying down. I fell asleep a couple of times during takes because I had to pretend to be unconscious."

She revealed that her last scene was shot between Elena and Damon, and that she was very aware of it being the end.

"My last scene was with Ian Somerhalder [Damon], and we were shooting a scene I can't talk about outside that was very beautiful," she said. "I'm in a gown, we're outside somewhere, and the last shot, a camera operator came up and said there was something in my hair, was trying to help me, and then he pulled me into a bear hug so I couldn't escape, while the entire crew got a cake and whipped cream and dumped it all over my body."

The actress said that she's quite happy with her decision, saying, "It's been a great journey, but at the end of the day, I'm not actually a vampire. The fairy tale has to end, and the next chapter has to begin."

Watch 'The Vampire Diaries' season 6 finale on Thursday, May 14 at 8pm on The CW.
