"New Girl" season 5 will reportedly focus on characters Schmidt and Cece, played by Max Greenfield and Hannah Simone, respectively, and their journey to wedding planning.

The previous season of the comedy series showed the two engaged and season 5 is said to feature more of their relationship heading forward.

Schmidt and Cece fans will surely be excited about the duo's story, but it won't be that smooth as many would hope it to be.

Showrunner Liz Meriweather gave away bits of details of the Schmidt–Cece union in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

According to her, Schmidt will be "obsessed" with all the wedding planning, much like how a girl would typically react.

Schmidt is determined to give the best wedding to Cece, but she will not be into it as he will be, Meriweather revealed.

Moreover, the wedding may not go smoothly as planned, as stated in a report from Entertainment Weekly. Schmidt will reportedly even turn to "groomzilla" once Cece's mom arrives. Apparently, Cece's mom disapproves of her daughter's decision to tie the knot with Schmidt, since she hails from a traditional Indian culture.

Meanwhile, Zooey Deschanel is still on her maternity leave as the show starts filming and season 5 will start without her.

In fact, it is expected that season 5 will see more of other characters and less of Deschanel's Jess as a way to cover up for the actress' absence. Deschanel gave birth to her first child with husband Jacob Pechenik last July.

Meriweather, in the interview with The Hollywood Reporter, even said that the premiere episode will be entitled "No Girl," since the titular character won't be present.

It was initially reported that Deschanel will be missing four episodes of the show. However, according to TV Line, season 5 premiere was pushed to midseason reducing "Jess-less" episodes to one.

The premiere date for "New Girl" season 5 has yet to be announced.
